Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for heritage, arts and culture, has announced its support for the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) ‘Let’s Make this Summer Green’ environmental awareness campaign.
The initiative, which will be implemented at the Dubai Public Library – Al Twar branch this month, will be an added feature of this year’s ‘Our Summer is Filled with Culture & Arts’ programme, and will aim at motivating future Emirati generations towards the adoption of an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. The ‘Let’s Make this Summer Green’ component will help bring awareness about sustainable practices, including energy consumption, drip irrigation and water conservation among the youth.
The Dubai Public Library ‘Our Summer is Filled with Culture & Arts Programme’ is in line with the authority’s efforts to support of the UAE National Strategy for Reading 2016-2026 and the Year of Reading 2016 initiative launched by the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The programme is aimed at providing children and young adults with a range of educational and entertaining activities that encourage the use of Dubai Public Library facilities through different programs, training sessions and workshops such as “ the little engineer workshop”.
Open to all age groups, these activities revolve around four key themes: happiness, reading, family and the future.
The initiative will further contribute to achieving the Dubai Plan 2021, to transform Dubai into a smart city whose environmental elements are clean, healthy and sustainable. It is also in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with a vision to establish a sustainable model in energy conservation which can be exported to the whole world, and support economic growth without damaging the environment and natural resources.
Dubai Culture and Arts authority is committed to enriching the cultural scene of the city in line with its Arab heritage, and is working to build bridges of constructive dialogue between the variety of different nationalities and cultures within the Emirate, in turn contributing to social and humanitarian initiatives which aim to provide a happier environment for UAE nationals and residents alike.
The Dubai Public Library network includes eight libraries for adults and another seven for children,
as well as multi-purpose halls, classrooms. All branches of the Dubai Public Library are connected
