Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Economy for Foreign Trade and Industry, Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Saleh, on behalf of the Minister of Economy, recently honoured the outgoing ambassador of India to the UAE, T.P. Seetharam, at the end of his tenure, during a ceremony organised in Dubai to mark India’s 70th Independence Day.
Al Saleh praised the ambassador for the excellent efforts he has made to enrich relations, cooperation and economic and trade bonds between the UAE and India.
He noted that India is the UAE’s top trading partner, with bilateral trade standing at U$34 billion in 2015, including trade through free zones.
There are 4,365 Indian companies and 177 trade agencies operating in the UAE, with 5,579 Indian trademarks present in the local markets, he said.
He noted that he was optimistic about future prospects for relations between the two countries and that their leaders share desire for stronger cooperation.
Ambassador Seetharam said India takes a great interest in its relations with the UAE which he described as a vital regional and global financial and business hub.
Additionally, the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC), which organised the ceremony, honoured Al Saleh in recognition of this efforts to bolster economic and trade cooperation between the UAE and India as well as ties between the business communities in the two countries.
