The agreement marks a significant step toward enhancing the concept of social responsibility and broadening community participation in supporting charitable and humanitarian initiatives within the Emirate of Sharjah.
This partnership reflects the shared vision of both entities to leverage modern technological solutions that simplify and integrate the donation process into individuals’ daily lives. It underscores their joint commitment to fostering a culture of sustainable giving and institutional philanthropy founded on transparency, efficiency, and innovation
Mr. Majid Al Junaid, CEO of Sharjah Cooperative Society, emphasized that the agreement stems from the Cooperative’s unwavering commitment to its social responsibility and its dedication to supporting charitable and humanitarian causes. He noted that the initiative represents an innovative model that combines technology and philanthropy in a seamless way.
“We take great pride in this partnership, which allows our customers to contribute easily and seamlessly to humanitarian causes, embodying the noble values deeply rooted in our community,” he said. “Enabling donations through POS devices is a pioneering step that transforms charitable giving into a convenient and sustainable part of everyday life.”
His Excellency further explained that the project aims to provide a secure and direct channel for donations through POS systems across Sharjah Cooperative’s branches, allowing customers to support charitable projects conveniently and swiftly during their shopping experience, without the need for any additional steps. The initiative also enhances transparency in donation management, ensuring that contributions reach the intended beneficiaries in accordance with the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
Al Junaid added that the implementation of the initiative relied on developing an integrated system that ensures the highest levels of security and accuracy in collecting and transferring donations.
“The system has been designed to integrate directly with Sharjah Charity International’s digital platforms, allowing real-time and transparent tracking of all transactions,” he explained. “This integration enhances operational efficiency and ensures that donations are processed reliably and smoothly. The initiative reflects the vital role of technology in advancing humanitarian work and reinforces our ongoing efforts toward digital transformation across all aspects of our operations and community services.”
For his part, His Excellency Abdullah Sultan bin Khadim, Chief Executive Officer of Sharjah Charity International, affirmed that the launch of this initiative represents a continuation of the longstanding partnership between Sharjah Cooperative Society and Sharjah Charity International. He highlighted that the true value of the initiative lies in its contribution to strengthening collaboration between the charitable and cooperative sectors within the Emirate, empowering community members to support humanitarian causes easily and directly by donating at checkout counters across all Cooperative branches.
Bin Khadim noted that this step aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who continuously advocates for embedding the values of giving and solidarity within community. He added that the initiative embodies Sharjah’s humanitarian and developmental vision, which prioritizes human welfare as a central pillar of progress.
He emphasized that Sharjah Charity International firmly believes charitable work is only complete through the active participation of all community segments and that providing innovative donation channels enables broader community involvement in supporting underprivileged families and those in need both inside and outside the UAE. He confirmed that all donations collected through this initiative will be directed toward sustainable humanitarian projects, including education, healthcare, relief, and housing. Bin Khadim also extended his gratitude to Sharjah Cooperative Society and its management for their continuous efforts and support in furthering the charity’s humanitarian mission.
Under the agreement, an official bank account under the name of Sharjah Charity International will be designated to receive the collected donations on a periodic basis. The donation amount will appear as a separate item on customers’ receipts under the label: “Collected on behalf of Sharjah Charity International – Not Subject to VAT.” In addition, detailed monthly reports will be issued outlining the total donation amounts, number of transactions, and contributions from each branch, ensuring the highest levels of accuracy, transparency, and procedural integrity at every stage.
The collaboration between Sharjah Cooperative Society and Sharjah Charity International represents a pioneering model of synergy between the cooperative and charitable sectors in the UAE. It is a progressive step toward embedding the culture of giving and social responsibility through smart, sustainable solutions that encourage individuals’ participation in humanitarian and development work.
