Tadweer (The Center of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi) organizes a series of social awareness lectures during the holy month of Ramadan under the slogan ‘Let’s Break the Habit with no Excess’. This campaign is conducted in cooperation with General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments. The lectures targeted housewives after Tarawih Prayers in Al-Ain mosques.
Tadweer’s Al Ain Branch Manager, Eng. Nayel Rashed Al Shamsi said, “We are committed to raise awareness among communities and to provide the best services. By using all the channels which will contribute to boost our efforts in maintaining cleanliness and proper disposal of waste. Majority of waste during the month of Ramadan is the food waste. Through these awareness initiatives we target housewives who are incharge of food prepared in the house.
He added, “Tadweer continues to provide cleaning and pest control services in 1,051 mosques during the Holy month. This is in addition to all Ramadan Iftar tents in Al-Ain which are distributed under the supervision of the charity organizations, such as: General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments and the Red Crescent.
Moreover, Nashwa Hamdan Al Ameri, Public Awareness Officer in Tadweer Al-Ain Branch, mentioned that Tadweer seeks to reach maximum number of housewives during their presence in mosques after Tarawih Prayers in order to communicate and spread awareness on food waste and ways to reduce it during the holy month of Ramadan. This is resultant of excessive number of food items that are bought during this month.
The awareness team continues to spread awareness on need to conserve and reusing extra food to reduce the amount of waste. Furthermore, the team raises the alertness by explaining ways to rationalize food purchase to a certain limit.
These awareness lectures is in line with Tadweer’s mission which seeks to enhance the environmental sustainability, creating society that is aware and which contributes in transforming waste into an economic source for Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This is in addition to Tadweer strategic objectives and services in order to raise the awareness of the importance of investing in best possible way and explaining how to minimize the waste by spreading positive social values and behaviours that benefit the individual and the society.
