The UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) Board of Management held its third meeting of 2016 this week to review FANR’s accomplishments and its strategic and operational plans for 2016.
The meeting was led by Board of Management Chairman, Abdulla Al Suwaidi.
Senior FANR management provided the board with updates to key FANR activities, including the status of its review of an Operating License Application for Units 1 and 2 at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, now under construction in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi. In addition, the board received a briefing on the UAE’s implementation of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Code of Conduct on Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources, which calls upon nations to ensure they have effective regulatory systems to oversee the management and protection of radioactive sources.
