“I don’t believe in Women’s Day!”

Madiha Bee

That’s right, I said it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a woman who loves being a woman, who has coached hundreds of women, and of course, who loves being celebrated— but the reason I say “no” to women’s day (cheekily) is because for me, every day is women’s day. And trust me, I have a robust argument for this cause.
After all, it is through women that every human is born.
It is through our bodies that every child is nourished.
It is through our courage that our species has survived.
Unless we want to spend just one day a year celebrating the very essence and source of our existence, one day a year remembering the beauty and power of being a woman, I think every day is women’s day.
Women should celebrate their essence every day. Taking this women’s day as a cue and reminder, but not stopping at the end of this day’s sentence.
We are blessed to be women; we are blessed to be connected to nature, to our cycles, and to all the things that make life beautiful.
Ask a man what a woman adds to his life, and you’ll know exactly what I mean.
So instead of taking just one day a year to celebrate “the next woman CEO,” I invite every woman reading this piece to remember how blessed she is to have been born a woman.
Woman, you can create life from inside you.
You can bring beauty to every space you enter.
You can fill hearts with love and bliss.
You can build communities that heal and sustain life.
Because somewhere deep inside your bones, you understand how life is created–and you do not wish to participate in its destruction.
Instead, you participate in releasing the old, as your body does every month, in a ritual of purification, a practice of letting go.
You are not “powerful” only when you become a corporate success story; you are powerful by your essence. By the genius that is stored inside your body and your womb.

Remember that you are powerful beyond belief every morning, not just on women’s day.
I have met very few women who truly know the extent of the power they hold. Women who fully embrace their distinct gifts and feminine power.
That’s why this women’s day it’s time not just to celebrate the “doings” of a woman, her successes, her ambitions, and her trophies—but to truly honor the fact that without women, the world we live in would not even exist.
To the mothers, the daughters, the wives, the creators, the artists, the teachers, and the nurturers of life, today (and, well, every day) is your day.
Thank you for all that you are and all that you bring into this world.
