Grand Imam Dr Ahmed Al-Tayeb of Al Azhar Al Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, has praised the role played by the UAE and its leadership in supporting Al Azhar and its centrist message.
Speaking at a press conference held here on Saturday to announce Al Azhar’s development strategy, Dr Al-Tayeb extended thanks to the leadership, government and people of the UAE for their unlimited support to Al Azhar in its endeavours to preach centrism and to fight terrorism and extremist thoughts. He said the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation has pledged to set up an international centre to teach Arabic as a second language to foreign students before they join the College of Islamic Sciences.
He also underlined UAE’s generous contribution to build a state of the art library for Al Azhar. The Grand Imam also commended UAE’s role in supporting Muslim and Arab brethren.
Al Azhar announced a new development strategy that addresses the concerns of Muslims and non-Muslims around the world. The carefully planned strategy aims at correcting the distorted image about Islam and promoting its real message and humane values.
