Emirati author launches encyclopedia to enhance ‘foresight’

The Emirati author and researcher, Sulaiman Al Kaabi launched a scientific and knowledge-based encyclopedia titled ‘Foresight Future’. It includes 386 scientific futuristic idioms that present seriousness in research and entertainment with the objective of enriching future foresight studies and promoting this culture in the Arab world.
Sulaiman Mohammad Al Kaabi, the author of the encyclopedia, said: ‘The encyclopedia aims at enhancing future foresight thinking among the Arabs, understanding its concept in the hope of instilling its approaches in the Arab culture in the coming era.’
Moreover, plying an important role in establishing a quantum leap in teaching curricula, consequently, positive thinking will be encouraged among school students.
Al Kaabi added that the dictionary contents were arranged in alphabetical order to make looking up items easy for researchers and readers. In addition, the encyclopedia will bridge the gap between the west and the east in the field of futuristic studies, particularly, in matters related to futures challenges and fears in the Arab region.
Al Kaabi clarified that the first chapter, titled Future Foresight, deals with the most prominent idioms in strategic futuristic studies that represent a cornerstone in addressing future foresight. This will assist researchers and academia and provide access to specialized reference books. Whereas, chapter two, titled (Future World) highlights distant future horizons to present to us an overview of what the future will look like.
Al Kaabi confirmed that UAE will be the hub for future insight that embraces it in the Arab world and inspires countries and governments in the field of future foresight. He also pointed out that he exerts his effort to disseminate the concept of future foresight in UAE in all usual and creative methods. He believes that future insight plays a vital role in enhancing the process of decision making, identifying opportunities and threats for organizations. Moreover, it minimizes the impact of surprise factor, deals with ambiguity, complications, identifies decision results and procedures to be taken.
Al Kaabi added that future foresight also assists in reconsidering decisions by utilizing big data and deals with disagreements as strength. The application of future insight enhances learning at organizations.
The author was awarded many appreciation awards, such as the Award of the Sword of honor from the Police Academy, Abu Dhabi and obtained the first rank at General Average.
In 2013, Al Kaabi proposed establishing a foresight future Centre at the Ministry of Interior that aims at disseminating knowledge among the public and employees, taking into consideration the application of the concept of future foresight at the ministry of interior procedures.
Since that date, he launched many initiatives in Future foresight. He also conducted many workshops and forums such as ‘ Police Future Foresight Forum ‘ in 2015. In addition, he organized delivering lectures on the topic in many parts of the UAE by inviting international experts in the field. Moreover, he launched a personal initiative by establishing the first Arab future foresight e- site that aims at raising awareness and disseminating the concept of future foresight in the Arab World based on its scientific principles. In July 2015, he proposed establishing a federal future foresight centre and similar departments at each ministry to be linked to the Centre.
The encyclopedia follows a systematic scientific approach through serious loyal studies that will enrich the Arab library and initiate a new Arab thought that is in compliance with the requirements of our society in accordance with future visions supported by continuous hard work in this field that deserves our race and competitiveness to enable us to have our DNA in this field.
