As part of this year’s Ramadan campaign, 5,000 volunteers of the Emirates Foundation, an independent organisation set up by Government of Emirate of Abu Dhabi to facilitate public-private funded initiatives to improve welfare of youth across the UAE, completed some 25,000 volunteer hours during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
This came as part of the Takatof and Sanid Volunteers ‘Painting Happiness’ program-me, during which volunteers travelled through the country to promote tolerance and cooperation among entire community.
Maytha Al Habsi, CEO of the Foundation, thanked the Foundation’s partners for ensuring the success of the campaign. “We are proud to witness a considerable turnout during campaign, in a way that truly reflects quintessential Emirati culture of giving, which considers volunteering an essential part of our heritage. The initiative underlined the values of tolerance and giving, as promoted by the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan,†she said.
The campaign’s volunteers visited, restored and painted 25 centres and social clubs for foreign communities, supported by the First Abu Dhabi Bank. It also included another initiative, entitled, ‘Giving to our People,’ which received donations, including clothing, for eligible families.
This year’s campaign included an Iftar banquet organised by the Takatuf (Arabic for solidarity) programme, in cooperation with Zayed House for Islamic Culture, which saw participation of 125 newly converted Muslims and distribution of gifts, in presence of 70 volunteers who completed 280 volunteer hours.
