The UAE pavilion at the Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition, Horticultural Expo 2019, managed by the National Media Council (NMC), is showcasing the country’s civilisation and the legacy of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The event, under the theme ‘Greening the Desert,’ is open to the public until October 7 under the slogan ‘Live Green, Live Better.’
The Expo features a wide array of educational and interactive exhibits, and is host to a range of public events, thematic symposia and cultural performances.
This participation, which is the UAE’s first at the Expo’s International Horticultural Exhibition, sheds light on the efforts of the country’s late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to develop the agricultural sector.
The Pavilion reflects the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership to develop and enhance the sector, which transformed the desert into a series of green oases, following clear strategies and initiatives, and drawing on the latest and most advanced agricultural technologies.
The display also showcases the UAE’s experience and sustainability-centered projects.
A visitor’s journey through the pavilion begins with a display of the words of Sheikh Zayed, “Give me agriculture, I give you civilisation.” The rest of the pavilion summarises the country’s efforts to increase its number of green spaces, as well as its use of advanced technologies in the agricultural sector.
Visitors can also learn about Sheikh Zayed’s biography and his programmes that aimed to transform the desert into green areas, as well as the UAE’s agricultural innovations, on a large screen.
They can then watch a documentary film introducing the UAE’s local environment, changes that happened to it since the establishment of the Union, the development of the country’s agricultural sector, and the use of Artificial Intelligence, AI, and other innovations in that regard.
The UAE pavilion is characterised by a garden that accounts for 80 percent of its area, totaling 1,850 square metres. It also features an oasis, walkway, trail lined with 36 palm trees and 20 other species of trees from the UAE, as well as 2,500 plants from 10 species.
The gardens also houses models of Aflaj, which is an irrigation system that Emirati people used to bring water for the purpose of irrigation and drinking. A desert environment life was designed by sand dunes that give the visitor an insight into the sea changes the UAE experienced from an arid land into a modern, innovative agricultural country.
At the end of the visit, one can watch a promotional film produced by the NMC in English and Arabic on the history of agriculture in the UAE, which also presents information on the Expo 2020 Dubai.
