‘UAE has adopted a unique approach on humanitarian issues’

The United Arab Emirates, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is keen to unite the charitable efforts in the region and the world for a better future for humanitarian action, according to HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, Chairman of the
Emirates Red Crescent (ERC).
He added that the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, aim to promote solidarity when dealing with urgent humanitarian issues.
In a statement marking the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8, Sheikh Hamdan said that the UAE has become a cornerstone in addressing the consequences of disasters and humanitarian crises.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the UAE has adopted a distinctive and unique approach on humanitarian issues, making a qualitative leap in improving the nature of relief aid, and changing it from simple assistance in times of crisis and disaster to the promotion of sustainable development projects that contribute to the promotion of vulnerable communities.
The ERC Chairman stated that the UAE had become the destination of choice for the launching of humanitarian initiatives in recognition of its role in forging constructive partnerships for safeguarding human dignity and mitigating human suffering.
For the ERC, Sheikh Hamdan said that May 8th provides an opportunity for a pause for reflection and self-assessment so as to push our humanitarian drive forward, build more partnerships and rally efforts to serve the targeted groups. It is also a chance to contribute actively with more programmes to strengthen partnerships with all sectors of society so as to achieve further expansion of our humanitarian programmes at home and abroad. Sheikh Hamdan also hailed the outstanding e efforts of the Emirates Red Crescent’s workers and volunteers, and the vitality of their message.

He also praised the important role of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in caring for victims and those people affected by crises and disasters despite material and logistical challenges.
