Under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and under the supervision of His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and the Chairman of BIAS Supreme Organising Committee, the fifth edition of the Bahrain International Airshow 2018 (BIAS)
concluded its three-day event.
Attracting the highest number of local, regional and international companies the event witnessed major deals signed with a total value of over $5bn.
Building on the long-established brotherly relationships between the two countries, the event witnessed a strong participation from the United Arab of Emirates with a UAE Pavilion of 635 square meters and
14 companies participating amongst other specialised in the aviation and engineering of military industrial machinery and equipment and space.
On the side-lines of BIAS 2018, a number of deals were signed including Air Services agreement between the Kingdom of Bahrain and UAE. The signing took place between the Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Moahmmed, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee of BIAS and UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority’s General-Manager Saif Mohamemd Al Suwaidi. The agreement included regulation of air services between the two countries in accordance with the latest standards approved by International Civial Aviation Organisation to comprise air safety regulations, aviation security, and more. Additionally, Gulf Air and Etihad Airways also signed an MoU which covers a scope to introduce joint codeshare operations between Abu Dhabi and Manama.
The show also highlighted developments for the Bahrain space sector. As the responsible Minister for the National Space Science Agency (NSSA), the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications signed an MoU with the UAE Space Agency and Khalifa University that would see the organisations working together on a two-year study programme to develop nano- satellites.
Prominent figures from the UAE delegation praised the efforts exerted by the organsing committee of BIAS 2018, as well as the opportunities presented to all participations to showcase their capabilites.
The UAE was represented at the event with a total of 14 entities, comprising local government bodies as well as specialised companies in the aviation and engineering of military industrial machinery and equipment. Participants include Abu Dhabi Aviation, Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments (ADASI), Advanced Military Maintenance Repair Overhaul Center (AMMROC), UAE Company for Industrial Machinery and Equipment, Emirates Advanced Research Advanced Research and Technology Holding LLC, Emirates Technology & Innovation Center (ETIC), Global Aerospace Logistics LLC (GAL) an Abu Dhabi based subsidiary of the Emirates Defense Industries Company (EDIC), Air Navigation Services, Maximus Air Cargo, Nation Shield Military and Strategic Journal, Royal Jet, Tawazun Economic Council,
UAE Space Agency and Etihad Airways Engineering.
