The Emirates News Agency (WAM), is already applying the latest innovations in the 21st century media sector, said Myron Belkind, during a visit to the UAE state agency.
The Professorial Lecturer at the George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs, and the former National Press Club President, said, “I am so thrilled to have visited WAM this morning.” Belkind went on to relay that his 42-year experience with the Associated Press allowed him direct access to innovative practices, noting that WAM has excelled in applying such innovations.
“I come here today to WAM, on my first visit to the UAE, and I see you are already doing all of the latest innovations of the 21st century,” he enthused, adding that the agency’s digital media operations, coupled with the basic importance of print journalism, provide a whole-rounded approach to providing the public access to the news as it breaks.
“I am just so thrilled and complementary,” Belkind continued, praising WAM staff on their enthusiasm and dedication to innovative practices.
During his visit, Belkind met the Executive Director of WAM, Mohammed Jalal Alrayssi, along with several department heads at the agency. The meeting entailed discussions on the ever changing media landscape, and its future challenges.
Commenting on Belkind’s visit, Alrayssi said that it was very informative, and that WAM representatives explored with him areas of interest, as well as training and forward-looking strategies required for the future of news agencies.
“I was very happy to sit down with Myron Belkind, and explore the future of news and the role agencies will play in disseminating information to the public,” said Alrayssi, adding that he was very pleased with Belkind’s positive feedback on WAM’s services. Belkind worked with the Associated Press from 1962 to 2004 holding several roles and positions, including the New Delhi Bureau Chief, London Bureau Chief and Managing Director of AP Limited, and Tokyo Bureau Chief.
