The Emirates News Agency (WAM) is taking part in the 6th World Media Summit, which began on Monday in Urumqi, capital city of northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Co-hosted by Xinhua News Agency and the Xinjiang regional government, the summit is being held under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Media Transformation.” Participants from various countries highlighted the importance of the summit as a platform to discuss the responsibilities and roles of media in light of rapidly evolving technologies, and to explore ways to enhance international ties in this field. The two-day summit covers topics such as AI ethics in journalism, combating fake news, challenges in investigative journalism, and the media’s role in fostering intercultural dialogue. Participants will explore the region’s economic, cultural, and tourism landmarks through field visits and attend specialised workshops on digital media technologies. Dr Hamad Al-Kaabi, CEO of Aletihad News Centre and Editor-in-Chief of Aletihad Newspaper, focused on the power of the media in promoting Gulf-Southeast Asia ties. He emphasised that relations between the GCC and ASEAN countries have developed significantly in recent years, built on solid foundations of shared interests and a desire for growth and prosperity.
