VP, WEF chairman discuss tech-driven future changes

Preparing for a future in which entire industries will be altered by new technologies was the focus of a Sunday meeting between Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Prof. Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, and Co-chairman of the Global Future Councils.
During the meeting which took place at Madinat Jumeirah, the pair reviewed the latest global developments and technology advances, as well as efforts of governments to keep pace with the ‘fourth industrial revolution’.
They also discussed Schwab’s latest book, “The Fourth Industrial Revolution,” and the role of this revolution in re-defining entire industries due to developments in artificial intelligence, robots, the Internet of Things, driverless vehicles, 3D printing, nanotechnology, biotechnology, energy storage, quantum computing, and more.
According to Schwab, during this revolution the world’s governments seek to create a positive impact on societies through sustainable solutions to current challenges facing cities.
Schwab, who is in Dubai to attend the opening of the Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils, thanked Sheikh Mohammed for writing a foreword for the Arabic edition of the book.
He stressed that the UAE’s proactive approach to development has earned it a notable global standing in building the future.
Those who attended the meeting included HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group; HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation; HH Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and The Future and Co-chair of the Global Future Councils, and Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director-General of Dubai’s Protocol
Department.
