HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak “Mother of the Nation”, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, has underscored the profound fraternal cooperation among GCC countries as pivotal to the flourishing of Gulf civilisation.
Speaking at the launch of the Unified Platform for Gulf Women’s Sports at the Dubai Opera, H.H. Sheikha Fatima said that this collaboration is the cornerstone for Gulf progress.
She noted that the UAE’s hosting of the 1st GCC Youth Games-UAE 2024 serves as a significant window for the world to witness the evolution and ambitions of Gulf sports. Her Highness hailed the initiative as a pivotal step towards empowering Gulf women in sports and fostering excellence.
She praised the collaborative efforts behind the Unified Platform, describing it as a groundbreaking endeavour that aligns with the UAE’s commitment to supporting and empowering women in the region and beyond. The platform, she said, marks the beginning of a new era of initiatives aimed at advancing women’s sports.
Her Highness expressed gratitude for the confidence shown by Gulf countries in granting the UAE the permanent presidency of the technical committee, which enables it to lead in innovation and sustainability.
In her closing remarks, she reiterated the UAE’s unwavering support for Gulf women’s sports, emphasising their vital role in national development. She expressed confidence in women’s ability to lead and contribute significantly to sporting excellence and national pride.
Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women’s Union, President of the UAE Women Sport’s Federation and member of the Advisory Committee for Women’s Sports in the Gulf Cooperation Council, praised the Unified Platform for Gulf Women’s Sport as a smart initiative that supports Gulf women’s sports. She commended the efforts of the advisory committee in launching the platform and highlighted its role in documenting achievements and fostering collaboration.
The launch of the Platform was attended by H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council; Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf; Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee for the Youth Games, alongside a number of ambassadors, public figures, sports dignitaries, and representatives from the GCC National Olympic Committees.
