UAE, Switzerland boost trade ties

Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, met Federal Councillor Johann N Schneider-Ammann, the Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, during the World Economic Forum 2018.
The meeting, attended by Hessa Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, and Mariam Hareb Almheiri, Minister of State for Future Food Security, saw discussions on ways to enhance bilateral relations in various domains, especially in the areas of economy, trade, investment and exchange for expertise in the field of human resources and food security.
They also discussed the latest developments regarding the implementation of the free trade agreement between the GCC States and the member-countries of the International Federation of Technical Analysts (IFTA), covering various aspects, including trade in goods and services and the exchange of expertise in areas of human development, food security, intellectual property and management. Al Mansouri emphasised the importance of bilateral ties between the UAE and Switzerland, which have witnessed notable growth as a result of the efforts being made by the two sides, particularly in the economic and trade fields.
Buhumaid and Almheiri conducted two presentations during the meeting on aspects of joint co-operation with Switzerland in the human development sector and possible prospects of collaboration in food security, which is a priority on the cou-ntry’s development agenda.
The non-oil trade between the two countries hit $13.3 billion in 2016, a growth of 26% over previous year, according to official statistics.
