The UAE showcased its efforts in protecting the youth from cybercrimes during a recent meeting in Kuwait that brought together representatives of relevant authorities from other Gulf Co-operation Council members.
Efforts are being made to combine the efforts of various government departments and the society in the UAE to ensure online safety and prevent abuse, partly due to ignorance of legislation, said Colonel Dr. Ibrahim Al Dabal, General Coordinator of the Khalifa Empowerment Program for Students, also known in Arabic as Aqdar (I can), and head of the UAE delegation to meeting.
The meeting provided a good opportunity to the Programme to highlight its efforts. Some 1,000 awareness workshops brought together around 150,000 students, teachers and parents to learn about safe usage of the internet, he said.
Some 225 films, 255 stories and more than 530 pictures and posters were designed and produced by member students of Aqdar programme.
Around 100 schools across the UAE were also covered by an initiative to promote digital security and safety among students, Al Dabal added.
Topics discussed during the meeting in Kuwait included traditional types of cybercrime, psychological and social impact on the youth and legal and other counter-measures.
The UAE delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Interior and the National Electronic Security Authority (NESA), the federal authority responsible for the advancement of the UAE’s cybersecurity.
