Prospects of business growth and development of a knowledge-based economy across the Arab gulf region were the crux of a meeting held on Wednesday in Riyadh and attended by GCC trade executives, with the UAE underlining the importance of safeguarding intellectual property patents and innovation, being a solid pillar for economic development.
“The UAE strongly believes in the central importance of efforts made to propel the developmental drive across the GCC states, particularly at the economic level,” said Mohamed Ahmed Bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi, Under-Secretary of Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Economy who led the UAE delegation to the 46h Preparatory Meeting of GCC Under-Secretaries in Riyadh.
The participants reviewed a series of topics on promotion of trade across the Gulf region, focussing ways of stamping out impediments hindering the flow of trade among the region’s countries.
Competencies of the GCC Patent Office and entrepreneurs’ innovative initiatives were on top of the topics discussed in light of the recommendations made by the World Trade Organisation recently in this regard. During the last meeting, the UAE has requested to raise the competencies of the GCC Patent Office for more
deliberations at the legal level.
