The United Arab Emirates, represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), signed an Air Services Agreement (ASA) with Italy.
The agreement was inked by Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General, of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, and Massimo Gaiani, Director-General for Global Issues and for Asia, Sub Saharan Africa, and Latin America, at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Italian Ambassador to the UAE, Liborio Stellino attended the meeting.
Al Suwaidi confirmed the importance of the strategy adopted by the UAE which had contributed to strengthening its economic position as a strategic commercial hub in the region and the world, as it could attract more foreign airlines to the country and increase communication with the various peoples of the world.
He also pointed out that the agreement comes within the GCAA’s endeavours to enhance bilateral air relations with various countries of the world, including contributing to finding more operational opportunities to national airlines and to promote and encourage economic co-operation and trade exchange between the two countries.
Al Suwaidi also added that the authority is constantly striving to promote an open skies policy with various countries of the world. He also noted that the UAE ranked second globally in terms of the number of open skies agreements signed with the countries of the world.
