A group of UAE doctors has volunteered 1,000 hours to serve children and elderly patients by working in the
Emirati-Tanzanian mobile hospital, which provides diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive and humanitarian services in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The campaign carries out the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to make 2017 the #Year of Giving and began following an official invitation from the Government of Tanzania. The campaign is also part of the Zayed Giving Initiative, in partnership with Dar Al Ber Association, Sharjah Charity House and the Saudi-German Hospital, under the supervision of the Emirates Volunteer Centre, representing an exceptional model of giving and joint humanitarian action.
Emirati cardiac surgeon Dr. Adel Al Shamri, Executive Director of the Zayed Giving Initiative, Head of UAE Doctors and Chairman of the Emirates Programme for Specialised Volunteering, said that the Zayed Giving Initiative is keen to target UAE physicians to train and enable them to volunteer locally and internationally to serve underprivileged patients and reduce the suffering of children and elderly people, in line with the humanitarian values promoted by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Dr Shamsa Al Awar, Executive Director of Humanity Doctors, highlighted that UAE volunteer doctors have formed diagnostic medical teams for the early detection of diseases, treatment units that provide free treatment for children and elderly patients, and awareness groups to raise community awareness about diseases, best treatment methods and prevention.
“Thousands have benefited from such services during the current campaign on the island of Zanzibar, as part of an annual programme that aims to reach out to thousands of vulnerable patients,” she added.
