UAE distributes winter aid for displaced Syrians in Lebanon

The first phase of a UAE-funded aid campaign to help displaced Syrians in Lebanon in the winter of 2017 took off in the country’s southern city of Sidon.
Supervised by the Humanitarian and Development Attache Office at the UAE Embassy in Beirut, the campaign titled “UAE Response to Displaced Syrians in Lebanon – Winter 2017” coincides with President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s recent declaration that the year 2017 would be the “Year of Giving.”
The current campaign, which will help more than1,50,750 persons in 35 distribution centres across all Lebanese regions, is funded by UAE donors, including the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, the Mohammed bin Rashid Charity and Humanitarian Establishment, the Emirates Red Crescent, the Rahmah Charity, Etihad Airways and others.
The Relief and Humanitarian Aid Organisation of Lebanon’s Dar Al-Fatwa and al-Moasat Social Relief and Welfare Association will deliver the winter aid to the beneficiaries.
The aid donated by Rahmah Charity was delivered on Thursday by Al Moasat Social Relief and Welfare Association at a centre for displaced
Syrians, located in Sharhabeel area in Sidon.
“The campaign is in tune with the UAE’s policy of extending a helping hand wherever help is needed,” said Mohammed Al Mehrezi, administrative officer at the Humanitarian and Development Attache Office.
“What is important to us is that aid should reach the most underprivileged displaced Syrians in Lebanon. We take a keen interest in providing basic needs during the current harsh weather conditions,” he added.
Al Mehrezi thanked the UAE donors for their generosity and co-operation as the Attach Office carries out its programmes across Lebanon.
