TRA to issue first report on Arabic Digital Content

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA)
announced that it will issue its first comprehensive report on Arabic Digital Content, ADC, aimed at promoting the Arabic language, with the support of the Information and Communication Technology Fund, ICT Fund, in cooperation with several international, regional and national bodies.
Speaking on the project, Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director-General of the TRA, said, “The project is in line with the directives of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who has indicated that the UAE has the qualifications to be the capital of culture, reading, knowledge, and content. This project comes within a series of important UAE initiatives in the field of supporting Arabic content, such as the Year of Reading initiative, the Arab Reading Challenge, and the National Reading Strategy. It also comes within the context of the UAE’s leading position in the community and economy of digital knowledge.”
The report addresses the current situation of Arabic Digital Content, the relevant opportunities, challenges and global trends in the development of digital content, the priorities, as well as indicators to measure the level of development in supporting ADC.
The report aims to provide references for academics as well as government entities, decision makers and researchers, supporting their efforts to develop strategies related to ADC. It also aims to enhance the position of the UAE as the capital of content, motivating relevant institutions to coordinate efforts, as well as shedding light on the achievements of different Arab institutions in various aspects of digital content development.
