TCA Abu Dhabi takes part in Frankfurt Book Fair

As part of promoting Abu Dhabi’s culture and tourism potential globally, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) is participating in the Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany from October 19-23.
At the Fair, a meeting was held between TCA Abu Dhabi and the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China (SAPPRFT) regarding China’s participation as the Guest of Honour at the 2017 Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF), from April 26 to May 2.
Next year’s edition aims to highlight China’s rich culture and heritage along with its latest technologies in the publishing industry. It is expected that several leading Chinese authors will be participating at the China pavilion, including Nobel Prize-winner Mo Yan, Mian Teah, President of the Chinese Writers Association, and the renowned Chinese author Liu Jin. Furthermore, it will be the largest edition yet to come in terms of the number of events, guests and pavilions.
“TCA Abu Dhabi’s participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair reflects our global significance in international publishing and highlights the relevance of our regional publishing industry. Our participation in this important literary gathering helps us establish and develop a new network of worldwide relationships and connections with other concerned entities,” said HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, TCA Abu Dhabi Director General.
“The fair is an ideal opportunity to collaborate with foreign publishing houses in the fields of literature and translation, and to promote our emirate’s rich cultural heritage and authentic traditions of which literature is an integral pillar,” he added. During Abu Dhabi’s participation at the Frankfurt Book Fair, a delegation led by Dr Ali bin Tamim, a member of TCA Abu Dhabi’s board, held several meetings with executives of major international publishing houses urging their participation in at the 2017 ADIBF. The event targets experts in the book industry to enhance expertise and present opportunities for investment in the publishing sector.
The delegation also met with Mrs Nang Lilly, Vice Chairmen of SAPPRFT, to discuss matters relating to China’s participation, prospects of future cooperation, establishing strategic relationships and other sideline programmes and initiatives, which will contribute to creating sustainable relationships to drive joint cultural and professional work.
“China was chosen as the Guest of Honour led by its cultural richness and excellence. ADIBF seeks to showcase the importance and diversity of the country’s ancient culture. The selection also comes in line with attracting more Chinese exhibitors and create more opportunities for participating publishers,” said Dr Ali bin Tamim.
