SHARJAH / WAM
Sharjah Aquarium, operating under the Sharjah Museums Authority, is set to mark World Turtle Day with a special event to release eight medium to large green and hawksbill turtles into the sea off Al Hamriya beach.
The turtles, ranging from 5 to 30 years old, have undergone rehabilitation after being found in poor condition and are now ready to be set free.
Taking place on May 23, the event is part of Sharjah Museums Authority’s long-running Social Responsibility Initiative, “Because We Careâ€, which was first launched in 2009 and has continued annually for 16 years.
The initiative aims to emphasise the role of Sharjah Aquarium in spreading awareness among the public on the importance of the marine environment and its creatures. It also highlights the species of turtles that inhabit UAE’s coasts and the efforts of the aquarium and other institutions to protect them.
Public members are invited to attend the turtle release that will be taking place in cooperation with Al Hamriya Municipality from 10:00 to 11:00.
