Sharjah Airport Authority to highlight expansion plans at ATM 2017

Sharjah Airport Authority will highlight the airport’s latest achievements, expansion plans and services during its participation in the Arabian Travel Market Exhibition (ATM 2017) taking place in the Dubai World Trade Centre until April 27.
The Arabian Travel Market is the global meeting place for the travel trade. Sharjah Airport Authority will be participating under the umbrella of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), together with representatives of many stakeholders from the government and private tourism industry in the
Emirate.
Speaking on the occasion, Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, said, “Arabian Travel Market is a global platform that brings together travel and tourism professionals and serves as a great networking opportunity for us to meet and share experiences with exhibitors representing international airports and organisations, to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the travel industry.”
He added that Sharjah Airport Authority will highlight the unique components of the airport and its key services and expansion plans, including the AED1.5 billion expansion plan for many facilities such as the airport capacity, which will be able to handle 25 million passengers by 2027.
Al Midfa highlighted the complementary roles played by Sharjah Airport Authority and Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, and their shared responsibility to achieve the collective goal of increasing the tourist influx to Sharjah to 10 million tourists by 2021, in accordance with the Sharjah Tourist Vision 2021.
Sharjah International Airport recorded a 10 percent increase in passenger traffic in 2016, marking over 11 million passengers passing through the airport during 2016, in comparison to 10 million passengers during 2015. Aircraft movements increased by 6 percent from 71,000 during 2015 to 76,000 during 2016.
