SCCI to boost biz ties with Costa Rica

Abu Dhabi / WAM

Officials of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) will meet Luis Guillermo Solis Rivera, President of Costa Rica, and a high-level Costa Rican government delegation on Wednesday for talks aimed at boosting economic co-operation, increasing investments in various sectors and facilitating exchange of visits and experiences.
Tourism, Islamic banking, services and infrastructure will be at the centre of the talks while Costa Rica will also focus on benefiting from the
experience of the emirate’s carrier Air Arabia in the future.
President Rivera will be accompanied by 12 Costa Rican officials including the ministers of foreign relations, foreign trade, environment and energy as well as the heads of Export Promotion Agency of Costa Rica, known as Procomer, and other
economic organisations.
Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and deputy chairman of the Federation of UAE Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said Rivera’s visit to Sharjah would be the first ever by a Latin American president.
It is one of the positive outcomes of a visit made to Costa Rica by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, in February last year, he said.
President Rivera’s visit reflects Sharjah’s good reputation and economic stature gained through the directives of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Al Owais added.
