Saqr Ghobash discuses boosting cooperation with speakers of parliaments of Brazil, Columbia, Tonga

Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) held separate meetings with the speakers of the parliaments of Brazil, Columbia and Tonga, on the sidelines of the parliamentary meeting and the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), which is being hosted at Expo City Dubai. While meeting with the Speaker of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira; the Speaker of the Chamber of Representatives of Columbia; and Andrés David Calle Aguas; the Speaker of the Tongan Legislative Assembly, Fatafehi Fakafānua, the FNC Speaker discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in various fields, especially activating cooperation and parliamentary relations between the FNC and their respective parliamentary assemblies.
They also emphasised the importance of exchanging visits and parliamentary expertise and enhancing coordination and consultation regarding various issues of common interest between the UAE and their respective countries.
Ghobash stressed the importance of developing parliamentary work to the level of future challenges and enhancing the role of parliamentary institutions through parliamentary diplomacy. He also exchanged views on regional and international developments with the speakers. In turn, the speakers emphasised their countries’ keenness to boost ties with the UAE across all sectors, praising the role of the FNC at the internal and external levels and the UAE’s vision for exploring the future.
They also highlighted the UAE’s success in hosting the parliamentary meeting and COP28, as well as the key role of parliaments in finding effective solutions to climate change issues. Several FNC members attended the meeting.
