The Higher Organising Committee of the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) has opened registrations for entries and started receiving nominations from public, semi-public and private entities in the UAE for the ninth edition of the award.
Nasir Hamad Abu Shehab, CEO of Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector-cum-Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of DAST, RTA, says the committee has accomplished a number of milestones down the way of this notable award, and all systems ‘go’ for staging the award.
“Registration in various categories of DAST can be made in simple steps through the Award’s website www.rta.ae/dast which saves much time and effort. The step consolidates the Smart Government practices advocated by the Dubai government to facilitate all transactions for corporate and individual customers, and contribute to the sustained efforts to make them happy.
“In keeping with its strategic partnership with various media organisations in the UAE and in recognition of the vital role played by mass media in diffusing the culture of sustainable transport amongst community members, the RTA has added a new category to the Special Categories of the Award starting from this edition. This new award is the Best Media Team award to run alongside the Best Media Person award, which is already in place.
The assessment of bids for the Best Media Person award entails screening the media coverage focussed on content which educates the public about the importance of the
concept of sustainable
transport.
Due consideration will be given to the implementation of the highest media ethics adopted in handling innovative ideas relating to sustainable transport provided by individuals and organisations in terms of accuracy, transparency, objectivity and reliability besides linking their impacts directly with the public needs in this regard. Sufficient space had to be allocated to photos published in the mass media supported by statistics in this field in addition to employing website contents to showcase the concept of sustainable transport,” Abu Shehab explained.
Commenting on the best media team, Abu Shehab said, “Nominations will be assessed on the basis of support provided by the media team towards publishing news and interviews relating to enhancing sustainable transport. The media team has to concentrate on quality and glitzy media coverage made via various media platforms.
“DAST is viewed as a practical manifestation of RTA’s strategy geared towards enhancing its vision of providing Safe and Smooth Transport for All in keeping with the ongoing development in the Emirate of Dubai spanning business, economic, tourist and real estate sectors among others,” he added.
DAST has main and special categories. The main categories comprise four awards – Mobility Management, Transport Safety, Environmental Protection and Transport for the Disabled.
The special categories comprise four awards as well. These are the Best Academic Research, the Best Student Project, the Best Journalist and the Best Media Team.
