Knowledge without Borders (KwB), a Sharjah-based cultural initiative, recently announced that more than 95% of Emirati families in Sharjah have already received free home libraries as a result of their ‘Home Library’ project, which aims to provide 42,366 fully equipped personal libraries to Emirati families living in all areas of Sharjah.
Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of KwB, said that home libraries were distributed to Emiratis who visited the Suburb Councils in Al Khalidiya, Moghaider, Wasit and Muwaileh in Sharjah. The distribution process was facilitated smoothly, and libraries provided upon the production of the receivers’ family books, passports and Emirates ID cards to receive their allocation of free books.
He clarified that, by the end of last week, there was less than 5% of the targeted families in the Emirate of Sharjah left to receive their personal libraries as part of the last phase of the project. Each library comprises 50 carefully selected books, which aim to fulfill the cultural and cognitive requirements of the receiving families.
General Manager of KwB deeply urged those families to approach one of the four Suburb Councils to receive their personal libraries. He stressed that most families who have not received their libraries, are either abroad or living in remote areas that are distanced from Sharjah, or bound by personal matters and family engagements.
He pointed out that the remaining households can approach the Suburb Councils during the official working hours until 2:30pm, and take home their personal libraries.
He highlighted the importance of prompt action and receiving them without any delay, as that would accelerate the process of acquiring knowledge and nurture minds with new literary genres, which has been the prime focus of this initiative.
The library collection includes titles authored by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, as well as books on various areas of knowledge that will promote children’s understanding of literature, science, culture, philosophy, politics, technology, history, archaeology, nutrition, cooking, education and poetry, and other fields.
KwB aims to promote a robust culture of reading in every Emirati household by establishing home libraries and supplying them with the best books of various genres and areas of knowledge suitable for all family members.
It was established under an initiative by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and is closely supported by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Organising Committee of KwB.
