People of determination enjoy recreational trips: ZHO

ABU DHABI / WAM

The Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO) organised a series of recreational trips for the members of its care and rehabilitation centres in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as part of its rehabilitation programmes to enhance and develop the cognitive, social and behavioural skills of students, and allow them to develop and apply these skills in natural
environments.
As part of the trips, some 400 students and supervisors from nine centres visited the Warner Bros World on Yas Entertainment Island in Abu Dhabi. The trips started at the end of March 2019 and lasted until the end of the year.
The trips included 100 students and supervisors from the Abu Dhabi Centre for Care and Rehabilitation, 22 students and supervisors from the Abu Dhabi Autism Centre, 30 students and supervisors from the Zayed Agricultural and Vocational Rehabilitation Centre, 100 students and supervisors from the Madinat Zayed Centre for Care and Rehabilitation, and 40 students and supervisors from the Al Ain Autism Centre.
This is in addition to 42 students and supervisors from the Al Sila Centre for Care and Rehabilitation, 17 students and supervisors from the Al Murfa Centre for Care and Rehabilitation, 22 students and supervisors from the Ghaiathy Centre for Care and Rehabilitation, and 12 students and supervisors from the Delma Centre for Care and Rehabilitation, in addition to 15 students and supervisors from vocational rehabilitation workshops.
The organisation stressed that through the programmes, events and entertainment and educational trips that it conducts, it seeks to provide members of its centres with interpersonal and self-reliance skills to boost their confidence and provide them with knowledge and experiences. At the same time, these recreational activities change how the society views them and facilitates their acceptance as social and loving people.
This initiative is based on the Federal Law No. 29 of 2006 on the rights of People of Determination and the national policy on empowering them.
The entertainment programmes at the ZHO aim to push the process of integrating students away from the
environment of the centres or traditional classrooms
settings.
