The RTA had prepared a comprehensive traffic management plan for New Year’s Eve, which always experiences heavy traffic, especially in the Dubai Mall-Burj Khalifa, Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Water Canal areas. The plan was intended to ensure the integration of various mass transit modes and traffic systems, in order to ease the movement of those celebrating the events, as well as those traveling to various destinations. Accordingly, RTA extended the operating hours of the metro and tram, so both services would run continuously from dawn on December 31, 2016 until
midnight of January 1, 2017.
