The Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) announced that it has completed 40 percent of the upgraded road network and interchange at Abu Dhabi International Airport, as part of its efforts to realise the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and to implement the directions of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, aiming to enhance the quality of infrastructure and support the economic development of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and the overall development process in the UAE.
“This project, being constructed in collaboration with Musanada, follows several other projects which all aim to create a complete and sustainable road system to serve the economic sector of the UAE, fulfill the current and future needs of the community, enhance the quality of life and support the comprehensive development process witnessed by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi,” said Faisal Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Highways at the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DoMAT).
“The work on this project is progressing as per the agreed schedule, and is expected to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2017 in line with the approved plan and in parallel with the opening of the New Midfield Complex at Abu Dhabi International Airport,” said Hamdan Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Musanada’s Acting Roads Director. “The purpose is to accommodate the expected increase in traffic volume and the constant growth in the number of visitors to the UAE,” he added.
“The project, currently being executed in cooperation between Musanada and Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, aims to connect the new terminal of Abu Dhabi International Airport to the E10 highway, providing direct access towards Abu Dhabi and Dubai as well as increasing the width of the Abu Dhabi – Shahama Road (E10) from four to five lanes in both directions, and widening the Presidential Flight road to three lanes in both directions,” explained Al Mazrouei.
He added that the AED677 million project includes the development of the highway interchange of Abu Dhabi International Airport through four 5.6 km single-direction connecting roads (including 4.8 km bridges), the construction of an underpass leading to Yas Island, and an overpass connecting Yas Island and Airport City A. This will also include the construction of a secondary 3.7 km 3-lane road network between Interchange No.6 and the E12 that will connect the Yas Island tunnel to the E10.
In addition, the road between the E10 and the Presidential Flight building will be widened from 2 lanes to dual 3 lanes in both directions and there will be a bridge to serve the Presidential Flight and Masdar City.
A storm water pumping station with the associated storm water drainage network will also be constructed to serve the E12/E10 interchange, together with a road lighting network and new intersections with traffic lights.
