French President Emmanuel Macron’s approval rating surged in March, even though doubts about the government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis grew in recent days, two opinion polls show.
Macron’s rating rose 11 percentage points from February to a nearly two-year high of 43% this month, according an Ifop poll published in Le Journal du Dimanche on March 29. The survey of 1,930 people aged 18 or more was held by phone and online from March 19 to 28.
Meanwhile, 44% of the French people said the government is efficiently battling the coronavirus outbreak, and 48% trust it to help companies weather the crisis, a separate Ifop poll held March 26-27 for the same newspaper showed. In both cases, that’s a four-point drop from March 24-25.
