‘Lughati,’ the Sharjah-based initiative dedicated to supporting learning Arabic the smart way, has launched its first summer camp for students. Running from July 13 – August 17, the camp will host around 500 male and female students, with activities taking place at various locations across the emirate; including Sharjah Ladies Club, Sharjah Women Sports Department, Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club and Sharjah Children’s Centres.
Lughati’s first ever summer camp will feature a series of workshops, with a focal point of the programme being the ‘Horouf’ application to enrich children’s vocabularies. Designed to advance young people’s linguistic capabilities and encourage them to articulate fluently and eloquently, Horouf aims to instil a love of Arabic in children’s hearts and motivate them to use the language in their day-to-day discourse.
Aside from the Horouf initiative, Lughati’s Summer Camp will host a number of other activities devised to contribute to the unlocking, nurturing and honing of children’s latent talents. The summer camp also aims to establish a programme of learning that combined first-class education with entertainment. “By launching the inaugural Lughati Summer Camp, we are aiming to leverage schoolchildren’s free time during their summer holidays to discover, develop and sharpen their Arabic linguistic skills. The camp’s programme of activities has been designed to offer an enjoyable learning experience, with fun as a key element of proceedings,†said Badria Al Ali, Manager of Lughati initiative.
“The camp’s workshops will be divided into theatrical and practical activities. During the theatrical sessions, children will be taught how to use tablet devices in conjunction with the Horouf programme, with the structure of the lessons one that is interactive and fun. The practical sessions involve hands-on training to help the children apply what they have learned. In addition to the Horouf-centred workshops, we are also offering recreational sessions that teach useful skills for productive hobbies†Al Ali said.
