The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Centre (HHC) will hold its third joint workshop with the United Nations Organisation for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai, from April, 16-20.
Similar to the past two joint workshops with the UNESCO, HHC seeks to move forth to a new level in alignment with the broader scope of implementing ‘The Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage’ passed by the UNESCO General Conference held in 2003, and the need to raise awareness about cultural manifestations and expressions’.
This year’s third and final workshop will tackle means to plan, strategise and review different scenarios in the Emirate of Dubai with real models for implementing the 2003 Convention.
Twenty participants from HHC staff led by Abdullah Bin Dalmook, the chief executive officer of HHC were selected to take part in the workshop in order to empower them in developing relevant plans and practices in their respective filed of work.
Commenting on the workshop, Bin Dalmook, said, “Under the directions of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, to preserve and revive intangible cultural heritage of the UAE and passing it onto the new generation, the two previous workshops with the UNESCO have helped broaden our perceptions and knowledge of how to implement the 2003 Convention for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage, and availed the opportunity to merge theory with practice – as demonstrated by last year’s workshop. The overall results have brought us closer to real implementation of the convention. With this third workshop we aim to further lay plans and scenarios of models in Dubai”.
“A pragmatic approach to embrace best practices and enhance HHC’s core vision as a credible source and a pioneer in the practice of safeguarding and reviving intangible national culture, but within a global framework,” he added.
The 5-day workshop will be held from 9am to 5pm at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai. Meanwhile, the session will include: Key concepts of Safeguarding Heritage; Safeguarding (Committee; intellectual property protection); step-by-step guide for developing safeguarding plans for ICH (Intangible Cultural Heritage); scenarios for developing safeguarding plans; Assessing knowledge and Evaluation.
