The Heart of Sharjah (HOS), the largest heritage tourism project undertaken by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), has been decorated with colourful lights and lanterns in celebration of Ramadan. The enhancement of the area has been undertaken in conjunction with an extension of its store working hours to facilitate Ramadan timings and attract more visitors keen to enjoy the spirit of the holy month at this historical site during the night.
The Heart of Sharjah’s Ramadan makeover see its traditional souqs and squares adorned with bright lights and colourful decorations, with lanterns on lampposts also installed in hallways and corridors. The decoration has been undertaken to create a special atmosphere and ambience commensurate with the spiritual values of the holy month.
Visitors to The Heart of Sharjah during Ramadan can enjoy a wide range of products and goods displayed at Souq Al Shanasiyah, one of the region’s oldest and most vibrant souqs. Imbued with a nostalgic character, the souq was rebuilt and reopened by Shurooq last year. Decorated with Ramadan lanterns and lights, Souq Al Shanasiyah completes the picture of traditional markets in ‘old’ Sharjah, reflecting what the emirate of Sharjah was like a century ago.
Scheduled for completion in 2025 and situated just five minutes from the city’s corniche and 10 minutes from Sharjah International Airport, The Heart of Sharjah will feature diverse commercial, cultural and residential projects; including a boutique hotel, restaurants, shops, art galleries, traditional and contemporary markets, archaeological sites, museums, play areas and commercial offices.
