Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will call a confidence vote in his government next week after key coalition partners withdrew their support over a spat over the name of neighboring Macedonia, increasing the risks or early elections.
“We will immediately proceed with the process to renew the parliament’s support†for the government, Tsipras said after a meeting in Athens with Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, who
resigned from the government.
Tsipras appointed Evangelos Apostolakis as his new defense minister.
The issue of Macedonia leaves me no option “but to sacrifice my chair,â€
Kammenos told reporters in Athens after a meeting with Tsipras earlier on Sunday.
“This government has completed its purpose†of drawing the country out of the crisis, he said.
