The UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN).
The signed MoU establishes a platform of cooperation between the two nuclear regulators to exchange safety and regulatory-related information on matters related to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, safety assessment as well as research. It will also cover exchange of information on legislation, regulations and guides and lessons learned from incidents.
Christer Viktorsson, Director-General of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation and Fernando Marti Scharfhausen, Chairman of the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council, signed the MoU in FANR’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation has 24 international agreements and MoUs signed with international organisations and regulatory authorities of other countries to build national capacities, exchange of knowledge and information.
CSN, is an independent organisation that sets regulations for nuclear safety in Spain. The regulatory activities of CSN encompasses all levels of nuclear facilities such as location, design, control and proper operation, and dismantling as well as the nuclear fuel cycle activities undertaken.
