EPAA research delegation returns from Netherlands, Spain tour

A delegation from the Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) has returned from a week-long visit to The Netherlands and Spain.
The visit was part of a research and knowledge-share mission regarding best practices for the conservation of indigenous wildlife and the protection of animals in captivity (zoos). It was also part of the EPAA’s ongoing mission to manage and protect the natural habitat of Sharjah’s wildlife in dedicated nature reserves across the Emirate of Sharjah.
Sharjah’s nature reserves have been rated among the best in the world in terms of their practices, standards, and specifications.
Currently, the EPAA is responsible for the protection of more than 25,000 animals from 250 different species, with specialists dedicated to understanding of each type.
Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the EPAA, said, “This research visit supports the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to adopt international best practices in environmental and wildlife conservation. The knowledge-share and experience gathered on this trip will undoubtedly develop the spirit of cooperation between Sharjah and European researchers, and lay the foundations for further discussions, initiatives and joint ventures in the future.”
Al Suwaidi confirmed that the recent visit is part of a series of international exchange programmes organised by the EPAA, in order to ensure that its research centres and nature reserves adhere to the latest technological advances and international standards.
