EEG honours winners of summer campaign

Emirates Environment Group (EEG), honoured the winners of the recycling, reforestation and recycling campaign, it carried out for a month involving various members of the community during the summer.
The programme was part of the EEG’s efforts to promote the message of World Day to Combat Desertification in collaboration with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of EEG, honoured the winners of this campaign for their perseverance and efforts they made to assemble amounts of paper, expressing gratitude to the people who encouraged and involved their children in such a fruitful activity during the summer holidays.
She said that the aim of the campaign was to increase awareness at the grassroots level, and a need to preserve the environment through community involvement in the activities during the summer period. Al Marashi noted that quantities of paper weighing 750kg were collected by the institutional partners and 300kg by students.
The Chairperson of EEG said that the recycling during the campaign reduced 68.26 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, saved 396 million British Thermal Units (BTUs) of energy, saved 55.7 cubic metres of the volume of landfill waste as well as saved 300 trees from felling.
