As part of their ‘Be Responsible — Drive Safe’ campaign launched in 2014, the Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network in partnership with RTA and Roadsafetyuae.com, conducted a Road Safety seminar ‘The Role of Leadership in Fleet Safety Management’ at the Chamber premises.
The seminar, organised by Dubai Chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business’s Sustainability Network Road Safety working group led by Tristar Group, provided business leaders and managers the knowledge and skills as well as the best practice and advice to effectively manage people who drive to work and to understand the influence they have on safety culture and driver behaviour.
The key speakers included David Marsh, Senior Road Safety Adviser, RoSPA (Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents), who spoke about the importance of effective leadership to create an accident free culture. He shared his knowledge about the reasons of collisions, human factors causing drivers to crash, associated costs, and the methods to reduce road risk and cost exposure. The other speaker Muhammed Akber, GM HSEQ and Sustainability, Tristar Group, spoke about the company’s best practices to ensure the safety of their drivers on roads.
The Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network Road Safety Working Group consists of companies like Tristar Group, ABB, SamTech Middle East, MAN Truck & Bus Middle East and Africa FZE, School Transport Services LLC (STS), Al-Futtaim Carillion, Aramex, Dow Chemicals, EMPOWER, QBG, and Jubaili Bros.
Dr. Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Business Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, stated that this Road Safety seminar reflects on the commitment of the Sustainability Network members whose contribution to the various sustainable initiatives do not only serve the companies and the community, but also goes on to enhance Dubai’s reputation of celebrating diversity while creating an inclusive and cohesive society that enriches its business environment.
Stressing on the importance of road safety for an individual, he added that a person’s life does not belong to him alone but also to his family and the community, therefore, this session and the continuing road safety campaign emphasise on safe ways for the prevention of traffic accidents and saving of precious lives.
On his part, Eugene Mayne, CEO, Tristar Group, said: “As a major player in oil and gas logistics, we are conscious of the potential consequences of an incident involving road tankers transporting flammable products, and we remain committed to sharing our experiences and international best practices to make the roads safer for all users in the UAE and across the GCC.â€
