DHA, Italy discuss investment opportunities in healthcare

His Excellency Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) received on Tuesday the Consul General of Italy in Dubai and representatives from the Gruppo San Donato University & Research Hospitals, Italy.
HE Giovanni Favilli, Consul General of Italy in Dubai, headed the delegation and other representatives included Paulo Rotelli, Chairman of Gruppo San Donato University & Research Hospitals and Joseph Chakola, Director of Publications at Informa.
The delegation visited the DHA headquarters and discussed healthcare investment opportunities in Dubai particularly in the field of medical training, research and public-private partnership in healthcare facilities management.
Al Qatami said that DHA is keen to further develop investment opportunities in the medical sector in line with the needs of the health sector and with an aim to provide highly specialized and super specialized healthcare facilities for residents and visitors in the emirate.
Al Qatami said in line with the Authority’s Dubai Strategic Plan 2016-2021, the Authority has several immediate, medium and long term plans to further develop the health sector ensuring patient-centric outcomes.
Al Qatami also highlighted the Authority’s vision to further strengthen medical education and training programs.
HE Giovanni Favilli, Consul General of Italy in Dubai highlighted that the Italian National Health System is widely recognised as one of the world’s highest quality systems. It delivers free, universal and sustainable healthcare to a population of 60 million people, while maintaining the lowest increase in healthcare spending among OECD Countries and the world’s second longest overall life expectancy (second only to Japan among large nations).
Rotelli said that Gruppo San Donato University and Research Hospitals is among the top-five largest hospital groups in Europe, has over five thousand beds (5300) and had an aggregate revenue exceeding
€1.6 billion in 2015.
Gruppo San Donato owns and operates 18 hospitals in Italy, and among these, Ospedale San Raffaele is a 1300-bed University and Research Hospital established in 1971, which is an international excellence and hub for gene therapy and molecular medicine and several high-specialty surgeries.
The two sides agreed to continue their discussions to further access areas of need and ways to collaborate in the field of healthcare investment.
