DEWA chief highlights role of energy projects

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received HE Milos Perisic, the Serbian ambassador to the UAE, at his office. Ahmed Abdullah, Senior Manager of External Communication at DEWA, also attended the meeting. This supports DEWA’s efforts to enhance cooperation within diplomatic and council missions. Al Tayer welcomed the Serbian ambassador and emphasised the importance of cooperation between DEWA and Serbian organisations in relation to energy, for their mutual benefit.
Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s most important strategic initiatives, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is managed by DEWA, and is one of the largest single-site strategic renewable energy projects in the world. It is based on the independent power producer (IPP) model, with a planned total capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW) by 2020 and 5,000MW by 2030.
Al Tayer also discussed the Hassyan clean coal power plant, based on the IPP model. The first and second phase of the 2,400MW project is expected to be operational by 2020. Al Tayer also addressed DEWA’s smart grid project, and three smart initiatives that support the Smart Dubai initiative. The Serbian delegation expressed interest in DEWA’s projects, and thanked Al Tayer for is hospitality and allowing both parties to discuss cooperation, and enhancing mutual relations to benefit the energy sector.
