All workers of companies and businesses in the private sector in the UAE will get a paid holiday on December 1-2, to mark the 45th UAE National Day and the Commemoration Day, according to a circular issued on Thursday by the Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
The circular was issued following orders from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to declare the Commemoration Day on 30th November as a holiday, and in implementation of Article 74 of Federal Law No. 8 for 1980 and amendments regarding regulation of work relations, which declares a one-day holiday to mark the UAE National Day.
The National Day falls on 2nd December, commemorating the founding of the United Arab Emirates in 1971.
The Commemoration Day, originally referred to as Martyrs Day, was first observed last year on November 30.
The public holiday on the Commemoration Day, 30th November, falls in between two working days, and was shifted to 1st December.
On this occasion, Minister Ghobash greeted President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates.
He wished the government and people of the UAE further progress and prosperity.
