Al Ain Zoo, in the foothills of the Jebel Hafeet Mountains, concluded its eighth winter camp under the slogan “Ambassadors of Al Ain Zoo”, where schoolchildren between the ages of 8-13 years old were given an exciting and unique experience for 5 days of adventures, discovering wildlife and how to deal with it.
The camp is organised annually and aims to invest in the development of children’s skills and equip them with learning experiences to reinforce a lot of capabilities they have, especially search and reconnaissance skills, and enhance their intellectual, cultural, social and physical abilities.
The winter camp participants took the opportunity to fill a variety of jobs at the zoo, in addition to taking the tour guide experience under the supervision of qualified personnel from different countries. They also took a journey through time at the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre, enjoying exhibits that portray the reality of nature of the UAE.
Shamsa Al Shamsi, Acting Director of School Programmes, explained that students participating in the winter camp worked hard and diligently as young scientists. They discovered geological formations in the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre and the Jebel Hafeet caves, which carry historical and heritage stories of rare animals and plants, some of which are still thriving now.
Al Shamsi added that the camp gives students detailed information about the nature of the zoo and a rare glimpse into the work of non-traditional jobs held by employees in various locations. She said that the camps organised by the zoo generally work to infuse the spirit of cooperation and cohesion among students through teamwork.
