In Carmel, Calif., Aston Martin announced the addition of a sister car to the Vanquish Zagato coupe it debuted earlier this year: the Vanquish Zagato Volante.
Aston will make only 99 of the Vanquish Zagato Volante open-top cars. The lower body sills are carbon fiber; its V12 engine gets nearly 600 horsepower. Sprint time to 60mph is 3.7 seconds.
The new Volante, which means “flying†in Italian, uses design elements that reach as far back as the 1960 DB4 GT Zagato race car (the slightly curved nose and arched rear; the slanted, recessed headlights; a low-slung curve along the side-body) and extend through the 2002 DB7 Vantage Zagato and 2011 V12 Vantage Zagato. But it also has modern updates that are closer to the Aston Martin Vulcan, like round tail light reflectors that use similar ‘bladed’ LED technology. Inside each car you’ll find herringboned carbon-fiber and bronze detailing, plus high-grade leather and trademark Zagato “Z†stitching on the seats and doors, headrests and center console.
Aston hasn’t announced the pricing yet for the 2+2 roadsters, but that doesn’t really matter. Most have been spoken for anyway. Deliveries begin next year.
