Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, has said that the Ministry of Finance has developed a number of leading e-systems to raise levels of effectiveness and efficiency of services, as part of its commitment to strengthen and support innovation, as well as benefit from IT applications.
Highlighting key initiatives taken by the government in this field, Al Tayer said that the UAE is a leader in driving electronic and digital transformations, which was initiated with the launch of the e- government in 2000 followed by the launch of the smart government in 2013.
“The UAE’s wise leadership has set utmost importance on developing initiatives that strengthen IT and digital content fields due to its significant role in achieving success and progress for developing countries,” he said in a statement released on the eve of GITEX Technology Week, opened its doors today at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
“The UAE continues to work on enhancing its IT sector and benefit from the digital evolution to achieve sustainable social and economic development, as well as build a knowledge-based economy with an innovative climate capable of competing globally,” Al Tayer added.
The Ministry of Finance initiated an ‘electronic shift’ for its government services with the launch of the e-Dirham in 2001, which is one of the federal government’s most innovative initiatives in the financial sector. The UAE Gate for Government Finance Statistics Reports manual is a leading e-system to build a consolidated financial database at the state level. The manual ensures integration in financial information, enhances transparency levels globally, and enables the federal government to fulfill its obligations towards international organisations and provide financial data in a timely manner and with high quality.
IT strengthens services related to government financial work, and in turn effectively contribute towards achieving the “UAE Vision 2021”, that aims to build knowledge-based economy led by qualified Emiratis in developing fields of technology to serve sustainable development, according to Al Tayer.
The ministry of finance has accomplished several successes in smart services to reflect its commitment to the smart government initiative and its vision as a global leader in financial management. This has been achieved through ministry m-Services, an app that provides direct communication channels to meet the needs of users from the public and private sector.
“Today, the ministry continues to offer support to the national approach and to develop initiatives that contribute to the smart government shift,” the minister noted.
