The Organisational Committee of Ports and Border Points in the emirate of Sharjah has reported that Al Madam border point facilitated the crossing of around 202,740 travellers in the first half of 2024.
This figure underscores the operational efficiency and readiness of the emirate’s border crossings to manage the influx of inbound and outbound travelers around the clock.
This announcement came during the eighth periodic meeting for the year 2024 held by the Sharjah Ports and Border Points Committee at Al Madam Municipality Headquarters.
Chaired by Mohammed Ibrahim Al Raisi, Director of Ports and Border Points Affairs and Chairman of the Committee, the meeting was well-attended by Lieutenant Colonel Walid Mohammed Al Nehm, Head of the Outside Outlets Police Department at the General Command of Sharjah Police, and Lieutenant Colonel Imran Al Shamsi, Director of the Khatm Milaha Border Point’s Passport Control Center.
Also present was Colonel Mohammed Al Afari from the National Guard Command, in addition to representatives of Sharjah Customs, the Federal Customs Authority, the General Directorate for Port Security, affiliated with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security, and the UAE’s State Security Department (SSD).
The key agenda items of the Sharjah Ports and Border Points Committee’s meeting were focused on enhancing operational mechanisms to elevate the performance of all border points across the emirate. Key performance indicators, operational strategies, and resulting recommendations were carefully examined.
The Committee also reviewed the workflow progress of the development project at the Al Madam border point, ensuring seamless services and smooth flow for travelers. Furthermore, the operating entities presented their detailed action plans outlining their respective roles, tasks, and responsibilities for the upcoming period.
Mohammed Ibrahim Al Raisi emphasised that the meeting underscores the Committee’s commitment to optimising the efficiency of Sharjah’s border points. He highlighted that the objective is to advance the operational processes and elevate service quality to meet international standards, in collaboration and coordination with the authorities and entities managing these ports and border points.
He noted that the Al Madam border point is set to witness a significant transformation in the quality of services offered to travelers, through partnerships with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, alongside other relevant entities.
Al Raisi elaborated that Sharjah Ports and Border Points Committee’s eighth meeting approved a strategic plan and key targets for the development of the Al Madam border point, divided into two major phases.
These efforts align with the Committee’s broader strategic goals to elevate the classification of border points and enhance their infrastructure. The aim is to ensure seamless services for travelers, enhance the efficiency of passenger traffic, and facilitate the smooth flow of goods, thereby boosting trade facilitation and promoting services that enhance the role of border crossings.
