Abu Dhabi Police have announced positive results in traffic safety during the four months of the year with a reduction in general traffic accidents by 11 percent, fatalities by 22 percent, serious injuries by 14 percent and run-over deaths by 50 percent despite an 11 percent increase in the number of vehicles and 6 percent in the number of licence holders.
Major Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director of the Central Operations Sector, Abu Dhabi Police, stated that the improvement in traffic safety indicators was similar to those recorded in the same period last year due to the implementation of the Comprehensive Traffic Safety Strategy 2016-2020 in collaboration with other strategic partners.
“Excessive speed accounted for 84 percent of traffic violations issued during the monitored period,†he noted.
Radars, he said, had caught 115,000 motorists despite the police’s announcement of locations of these smart devices several times during the day.
He said that the Smart Police Application had caught 91,700 erring motorists during the period from January to April.
According to him, young motorists in the age bracket of 18 to 30 were behind 46 percent of the registered accidents.
He highlighted the efforts made by the Traffic Police to organise awareness lectures in schools and universities through social media platforms.
